Levels of Edits
There are different levels of editing, but here is what Megan Ryan provides.
Light content edit: If you are a more experienced author or have had a manuscript critique already, Megan can read your nonfiction book and give notes on ideas you may want to expand on or cut out. She can point out gaps or inconsistencies as well. If she thinks content could be rearranged, she can also note that. For novels, she can give some feedback on your plot and characters. This is not an in-depth developmental edit.
Copy/line edit: Megan can edit your book for flow, word choice, tense, point of view, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. She will also be on the lookout for inconsistencies and anything that needs to be clarified. For nonfiction, she can also do a basic fact check and help create citations if needed.
Proofread: Megan can edit your book or other text by only fixing errors such as spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting problems.
Megan can edit in Word or Google Docs, and she uses Track Changes or Suggestion Mode so you can see her work. She can proofread in Word or on PDFs in Adobe.
Editing Prices
Megan Ryan typically bases prices on word count and the condition of the manuscript. Generally, a copyedit of a book-length text will be 1.5 to 2.5 cents a word. A proofread of a book file will be 1.2 to 2 cents a word.
If you prefer to pay based on time worked, Megan’s rate is $40-45 an hour. She can provide an estimate of hours needed after reviewing your manuscript.
Speaking
Megan Ryan is also available to speak to your writing group or event about editing topics. She is on faculty for the 2026 American Christian Fiction Writers Virginia Royal Writers Conference, and she has presented to local writing groups such as Word Weavers and ACFW chapters in person and over Zoom.
